This past Saturday was a bit different, in the sense that there was a calm in the air. It was an unusually long run, as we’ve been finishing up within a 4 hour time frame for quite some time now. We spent a lot if time talking with people, about a myriad of issues, some personal, some business, but all truth, and all love. The other very obvious thing was the presence of furry friends. Sometimes we don’t see a lot, but as of late that has changed. This past Saturday, it seemed as if that’s all we were seeing, along with new faces of new friends! However, it was a joy to spend the extra time with our friends, and that’s what it’s all about, engagement.
With the need for any services do great, we are actively working on generating more funding. Well this past Thursday on August 22, we participated in the Vallejo SOUP, which is a potluck dinner community event. At the SOUP community based projects are selected to pitch their projects, with the hopes of gaining some immediate cash funding, all based on funds raised that night. Well long story short, we presented, and received one of the generous cash prizes. Our main goal was to address our need for storage, and that’s exactly what we are planning to do with the wonderful extra funds! We are expecting another odd weekend next week, because it’s the 5th weekend of the month, and the first falls I’m on a Sunday. All that to say that most people will be on their last leg, til they can access their funds on Monday. We will certainly be prepared for any extra needs we may encounter. Til then, have a wonderful week, and see you in the streets of Vallejo next Saturday on the 31st!

Saturday is always special to us here at the MLKHP. It was still a somber day, however one we approached with a zest for life. Having had a rough week, due to the loss of one of our original friends out there, it just became even more important to us to show our friends the love and support they need to not only survive, but to recalibrate, reinvigorate, and get back to a state of self sufficiency. However, yesterday we just wanted to show kindness and share the kindness of others with our friends. So after we received two separate donations of hot dogs and buns, we bot only provided all of our friends with their usual lunches and all that comes with the lunches. We also were able to give everyone a hot dog and a juice drink. Oh the smiles, and the reminiscent revelations of the great memories the hot dogs evoked were amazing!! The goal was achieved, and everyone was very pleased and very thankful. Unbeknownst to them, it is we who are thankful that they allow us into their lives, and into their hearts!! So we really had a wonderful day of service to our friends, but also to our furry friends of our friends. Yesterday was International Homeless Animals Day, so we showed our little four legged buddies extra loving yesterday, and they too were thankful and joyfully appreciative! It was really a beautiful day, and one in which we could just take the time to embrace the simple things in life! So we will certainly get back after it, and see y’all in the streets of Vallejo, CA next week!!
It’s Sunday evening in Vallejo, and a somber one at that. Yesterday we went out faced with some additional challenges from an operational standpoint. We were doing a run that required two vehicles and four individuals, in order to execute it effectively and efficiently. We with a limited team, we worked out the semantics, and found a way to make it work. As we headed out, we met a young man in distress, a family in need, and learned of a friends death all within the first 30 minutes! However, thru a very tough start, we stayed the course and found many more of our friends to help. Having a limited crew and the needed available space, we elected to just let everyone have everything, and not just limit to the MLK FAMILY & FRIENDS PROGRAM members. However, we did so with the promise of doing something special for our members next weekend, and if we have a nice surprise for them. Loaded up with our usual 100 sack lunches, toiletries, pet products, Bombas Socks, and much more, we were really excited to start passing out disposal underwear for emergency situations! The idea is to provide our friends with the tools to maintain their esteem by improving upon their availability to hygiene products. It was a particularly long day, but a very productive one nonetheless. We are excited to head out next weekend, to see the faces that need love and hope, and hopefully not to see so many faces of despair. So we will be our next Saturday doing what we do, and we will certainly announce our surprise fir our friends this week! Do have a wonderful evening and see you in the streets of Vallejo next Saturday!
On a quick personal note, we want to say to our dear departed friend Ms. Beverly Malcolm, we loved you then and we love you now! RIP my friend! 🌹 #ONELOVE ❤️✊🏾🖤✊🏼💚✊🏻💛 |
