Today was a cold and wet one in Vallejo, CA, so to say the least, there were gonna be some friends who would most definitely be in need. We did our best to provide both physical and emotional comfort today, as we went out with extra hearty lunches, lots of positive energy, and a slew of warm weather items. It’s our intention to go back out tomorrow to see who we might have missed, or who might have missed us. So we will see y’all next week in the streets of Vallejo.

This past Saturday was a very busy one for us, as we went out to do a four person job with 2 people. I along with my wife, saw to it that we kept our commitment to not only see to it that all of our lunch recipients, a number which is often random in nature, recurved a pair of socks, a toiletry bag, along with a sack lunch, and the opportunity to request an umbrella or even a blanket. After next weekend this requisition process of limited items, will be open to everyone, and not just card carrying MLK FAMILY & FRIENDS PROGRAM members. We are continuously meeting new people and it’s a bit alarming, because there’s a lack of familiarity coming back into play. It’s paramount to cultivate and nourish the already established relationships we’ve formed, as well as trying to constantly start new ones. Either way, our ability to maintain responsible relationships is our main focus, and therefore we must be sustainably consistent, and that calls for trust, and that trust is built on keeping our word. So with that said, we are going out next Saturday on the 30th of November with a special Thanksgiving themed lunch program! We are certain that our friends will enjoy what we have planned as much as we enjoy planning and seeing it through to fruition. Til then, take care and we will y’all next week in the streets of Vallejo!

Therefore on a business note we knew this to be a serious concern for our friends, so we went out with the goal of providing all of our friends with hand warmers, courtesy of a friend, a mix of knitted hats, scarves, gloves, beanies, and Mylar blankets. In addition we also took out socks for those in immediate need, as we will be providing socks for everyone this coming Saturday. We are equally as focused on fulfilling other needs to combat the imminent cold weather, by providing extra items, that are unfortunately limited in supply. To facilitate this effort, we will be providing our MLK FRIENDS & FAMILY PROGRAM members the first opportunity to request a tarp or an umbrella, by showing their membership cards to sign the requisition list. Those who produced their cards and signed up to select an item, will receive their items next week. As a result we will be able to fairly distribute the limited availability items to our friends. By the first Saturday in December, we will suspend the members first protocol, and instead allow these items, provided we have them available, to be claimed on a first come first serve basis. Only those who have not previously received a requested item will be allowed to participate in the first come first serve distribution process. We hope to also do this with blankets beginning next week as well. It’s proving to be well received, and since we made some unrelated requests deliveries today, are friends can rest assured that we will be doing our best to keep our word.
On a personal it was a somewhat sad day for a few of our beloved friends. Death has become a reoccurring theme throughout our homeless community, and it saddens us to know we can’t do more than we do. We do our best to listen and offer comfort paired with hope. We certainly will keep pour friends, who shared their grief with us today, in our prayers, but then again we constantly keep our growing our prayers. So on that, we will be out next Saturday to spread some much needed love and kindness, the only way we know how, with open hearts and open minds!! Please follow us Facebook and Instagram https://www.facebook.com/MLKHumanityProject/ #ONELOVE This Saturday was another step towards incorporating important services into the construct of our project. We were joined by Kaiser doctor Emily Fisher and her associate, Dr. Matt Symkowick, in an effort to introduce them to our friends. The goal is to establish relationships with medical professionals with many who are apprehensive to seek help because of a lack of resources or a heightened state of paranoia for many other reasons. It would appear that our friends will be willing to participate in any program we set up with the doctors. The program would be designed to help serve their basic medical needs and to answer any questions they may have concerning treatment options and ways to reasonably seek and receive said treatment. The prospects are exciting, and we will certainly keep you abreast of any progress made. In addition to having doctors join our network building effort, we are also going to provide 2 pair of socks per month, on a bi-weekly schedule, in an effort to help our friends combat the cold season that is now upon us. So we are thankful for that.
Along with the lunches and toiletry bags, aka Blessing Bags, we were able to help many people Saturday, and can’t wait to see them next week. So until that time comes, we will be working diligently this week to stay the course, and grow the project. See you next week in the streets of Vallejo, CA!! ***Please follow us on Facebook & Instagram https://www.facebook.com/MLKHumanityProject/ It’s been another successful weekend of service. This was our first week of service without being partnered with Outpaw Outreach. Due to scheduling issues, we felt it best to operate independently, but with a referral based relationship. Our friends have been reassured that we will continue our MLKHP Pet Program, and it will at the very least be business as usual, and there will only be room for improvement and growth. We will continue to work with our other partners, listed in our Sponsorships & Partnerships section of this website. We are excited about potential projects for holiday service, and will be updating you on that, as soon as possible. Other than that, we were surprised at the volume of people we served, considering it was the 2nd of the month, and for many of our friends, some financial resources are available. Anyway, we took note of the unusually high number, and will be better prepared to serve in the weeks to come. So on a final note, we are committing to giving everyone, who receives a lunch, a pair of socks twice each month, from November through January. Much thanks to our partnership with BOMBAS SOCKS, because it will allow us to provide the socks during these cold months!! So with that, we will see y’all next week in the streets of Vallejo!!
