This past Saturday was one of the more inspiring days we’ve had, or at least in my humble opinion it was. Every now and then, we are able to do something extra for our friends, and this weekend we did just that. With our usual haul of 100 sack lunches, we took out an additional 70 chicken, sausage (turkey), and rice dishes, complete with sautéed bell peppers and yellow onion. It was indeed a treat to serve and equally as mouth of a treat fir our friends to enjoy. With this past weekend being an awkwardly timed one, so to speak, due to the 1st of the month falling on a Sunday, just to have Monday be a holiday. With this being the case, our friends, most of them, won’t receive any financial assistance until Tuesday. Knowing that, we made sure to take extra toiletries and food to offer some relief until they receive any assistance from recurring sources, other than ourselves and groups like ours.
The day was filled with pleasant surprises, including but not limited to our friend surprising us with his news of personal progress he’s been making in his life. From a bike to get to and from, to now owning a car to help him even further in his pursuit for full self reliance. Another friend told me of his plans to get some help to address his issues, so that he may one day help us do what we do. We ran into a young mother, who is doing it! She has been working hard to take care of her family, and after having to make some serious decisions, she is in her way to getting her and her children a place of their own. These stories and others like them, were all we heard Saturday. It seems as if the reality of how bad it’s getting out there, is beginning to resonate with our friends, so much do that people are ready to face their demons, their fears, and their obstacles, in an effort to better themselves and their lives! We will continue to support our friends, and offer them the love and kindness, we all deserve, and that we all need to live happy, productive lives!! So with that, always tell the ones you love that you love them before you can’t!! Always remember to be kind to others!! Peace and God Bless!! See you in the streets of Vallejo next week!!
