Well it’s almost the end of the year, and the decade for that matter, and the winter season holidays are almost behind us yet again. With it being the final sack lunch run of the year, we wanted to do something special, in addition to all of the absolutely necessary things that we do for our friends. Sometimes we just want to make people smile, and we’ve learned that whenever we serve our red beans and rice, our friends are very appreciative. We serve them hot and we believe that’s part of the lure. Nothing brings back good memories like homemade food made with love. Along with the treat, we were also able to provide everyone with hand warmers, and Mylar blankets for those who wanted and needed one. The thing that most people don’t realize is that our friends, more often than not, will not take what they don’t really need, because they know full well that someone who is in more need might miss out if they take what they can because they can, and not because they need to. It was a very long day, as we traversed the streets of Vallejo looking for those in need. Usually this time of year there are so many groups serving, that our friends aren’t in need as much, and that’s a good thing. With the reality of ending a year homeless along with knowing that the new year will present as many if not more challenges, we are prepared fully to start next year even more determined to live up to our mission statement which is to “EMPOWER OTHERS TO EMPOWER THEMSELVES”!! Words to live by!! With lots of irons in the fire, we are most excited at the unveiling of our new website for next year, so we hope you’ll like it as much as we are proud of it. Along with the website we encourage you to keep your eyes on our progress, because there’s so much good out there yet to do. So we can’t wait to hit the streets next year in 2020, and do our thing!!
As the day progressed, and we finally finished our lunch program, we had time to relax for a brief minute, because after being honored to serve others, we were going to attend an event later on honoring ourselves and a few select others, for being of service to the Vallejo community. To say the least, it was amazing! Askari Sowonde and all those involved with the production of this wonderful event, truly outdid themselves. From the wonderful entertainment, to the powerful speakers, and the many light hearted moments, to say it was amazing would be an understatement at best. Not only were we and others recognized by the city, but we also received recognition from the California State Legislature!! Right on!! To make it all even that much better, we even won two raffle items, including a beautiful pillow, and a fabulous framed artwork entitled “PAPYRUS”!!! Once again, it was a truly amazing evening of unity and edutainment!!! We can’t wait to attend next year and support the new class of honorees!! Last but not least we hope that that everyone has a wonderful and safe New Year’s Eve, and we will see you on the flip side! Til then keep doing what brings you joy and hopefully brings joy to others. Tell the ones you love that you love them before you can’t! Peace, and May God continue to Bless Us All!! ONELOVE❤️✊🏾🖤✊🏼💚✊🏻💛
