SACK LUNCH PROGRAM

Today was another step towards building bonds of trust with our friends. and the fact that it started out somewhat dreary and slightly chilly, was a strong indication that it was gonna be a cold winter season. Therefore on a business note we knew this to be a serious concern for our friends, so we went out with the goal of providing all of our friends with hand warmers, courtesy of a friend, a mix of knitted hats, scarves, gloves, beanies, and Mylar blankets. In addition we also took out socks for those in immediate need, as we will be providing socks for everyone this coming Saturday. We are equally as focused on fulfilling other needs to combat the imminent cold weather, by providing extra items, that are unfortunately limited in supply. To facilitate this effort, we will be providing our MLK FRIENDS & FAMILY PROGRAM members the first opportunity to request a tarp or an umbrella, by showing their membership cards to sign the requisition list. Those who produced their cards and signed up to select an item, will receive their items next week. As a result we will be able to fairly distribute the limited availability items to our friends. By the first Saturday in December, we will suspend the members first protocol, and instead allow these items, provided we have them available, to be claimed on a first come first serve basis. Only those who have not previously received a requested item will be allowed to participate in the first come first serve distribution process. We hope to also do this with blankets beginning next week as well. It’s proving to be well received, and since we made some unrelated requests deliveries today, are friends can rest assured that we will be doing our best to keep our word.
On a personal it was a somewhat sad day for a few of our beloved friends. Death has become a reoccurring theme throughout our homeless community, and it saddens us to know we can’t do more than we do. We do our best to listen and offer comfort paired with hope. We certainly will keep pour friends, who shared their grief with us today, in our prayers, but then again we constantly keep our growing our prayers. So on that, we will be out next Saturday to spread some much needed love and kindness, the only way we know how, with open hearts and open minds!!
